Clear Vision - Fighting to Prevent Blindness

"Our mission is clear. To eradicate all forms of retinal degenerations including Age-Related Macular Degeneration, enabling all members of our global society to share our clear vision."
- Dr. Riccardo Natoli

Our 'Clear Vision'

If you were asked, what was the one sense that you couldn't live without, most of you would have immediately thought of your sight. That is because our vision plays an integral role into how we perceive the world around us. Without research into the prevention of vision loss from retinal degenerations it is guaranteed that 1 in 7 people will lose the sense of sight.

Research led by Dr. Riccardo Natoli and his research team focuses on what causes the retina, the part of the eye responsible for converting light to an electrical signal that our brain can understand, to degenerate with age. This degeneration can lead to irreparable loss of retinal cells causing permanent blindness. We have a 'Clear Vision' of what is required to reduce the progression of these diseases, and have developed a number of potential therapeutics which could prevent retinal degenerations by targeting inflammation and oxidative stress, two major facets of the degenerating retina. Our Research In Three Minutes

Research can be a complex and often impenetrable for those outside of the specific research field. Imagine then having to explain years of research in only three minutes. This was the challenge for one of our PhD students (Mr. Joshua Chu-Tan) who won the ANU and Asia-Pacific 3 Minute Thesis in 2016, and went on to represent the ANU internationally at the prestigious Falling Walls conference in Berlin, Germany.
