Day at the races for vision research

During a lovely warm Sunday, we had the absolute pleasure of joining Retina Australia in Thoroughbred Park for a day of races, lovely food, and amazing company. We were honoured to participate in their Annual event “Sunday at the races” together with members of the ACT community, members of Retina Australia ACT, and those involved with the foundation.

After a warm welcome by the lovely Jane James, Riccardo gave his keynote speech, informing the audience of the progress that has been made with therapies for the spectrum of retinal diseases, together with the exciting work that is currently undergoing in our research group and the potential it has as therapy in retinal diseases. During the speech Riccardo interacted with the audience, asking the question, “what is a cell? and why is it important” the answers to those questions explained the importance of networks and the development of the new Clear Vision Research Precision Medicine initiative, that aims to create better therapies for patients and their unique retinal diseases. The rest of the afternoon was filled with excitement and cheer for the horse races, raffles, and games, keeping everyone well entertained.

This event was a unique opportunity to interact and meet with those that are visually-impaired or live with the conditions that we as researchers try and combat, so we can make the difference in their lives for the better. It was truly an eye-opening experience.

We have definitely learned a lot during this event, and we sincerely thank Retina Australia for this marvelous event and for hosting us. We look forward to continuing working with you all in the future.
